State Police in Herkimer are investigating a  shooting in Newport. According to officials, Michael

Caldwell, 42, was involved in an altercation with his neighbor Daniel Uebele at White Creek Trailer Park

inNewport. Police say Caldwell suffered a fractured left eye then shot Uebele with a SKS assault

rifle in both legs. Caldwell was released from hospital care today and was charged with Attempted

Murder. He was arraigned in Newport Court, then sent to the Herkimer County Jail in lieu of $100,000

bail. The investigation continues and additional charges are pending.
