Canastota man faces burglary charges

A Canastota man faces burglary, criminal impersonation and aggravated unlicensed operation charges following a burglary in the town of Verona.

Police say 23-year-old Devin Simzer allegedly stole cash, a digital camera and a digital picture frame from inside a home on Spring Road.

The homeowner approached Simzer when he saw him coming out of his garage.

Simzer told the homeowner that he was looking for his dog and then he fled in a pickup truck.

The truck was spotted the next day and following a traffic stop, Simzer allegedly provided a false name and date of birth to officers.

Simzer was sent to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
