A former New Hartford Town Supervisor coordinating an effort to help a "sister city."
Ralph Humphreys says New Hartford, Iowa, a community of about 600 people, was devasted by a tornado and flooding earlier in late May and early June.
He's raising money to help the community rebuild a cemetery(photo from KCRG-TV in Iowa) which was uninsured and wiped out by the storms.
Businesses were also crushed by the tornado and flooding that followed two weeks later.
Similar fundraisers were organized in Hartford and New Hartford, Connecticut. Hartford raised about $10,000 while New Hartford raised about $9,500.
Dave Childs, of New Hartford, Connecticut, says when he visted the small city the only commercial building that wasn't destroyed was a car wash. The local gas station was destroyed too. Now, residents there have to travel 15 miles to the next town to get gas, he said.
The money raised would rebuild the citys' cemetery.
